La Fortuna

Prior to my trip I had read that Christmas time would be absolutely bonkers with too many tourists.  Arriving in Fortuna, I was pleasantly surprised. The small town was lively but not overcrowded.

We stayed right across from the picturesque church and park. It was my favorite spot to sit and eat a rompope ice cream (eggnog…so good) and watch the hummingbirds.

From Fortuna I went on an excursion to the Cano Negro wildlife reserve; it was a boat tour on the river. It was super cool and allowed me to take blurry, awful photos. Seriously, I need to practice so much before I ever take another trip.

The next morning I did a stand-up paddle boarding trip at Lake Arenal.

Stand-up paddle boarding quickly became sit-down paddle boarding.  I was so wobbly!

But it made for some nice photos of the volcano from the lake!
